His first school day

Our 6 yr old Louistjie was very excited to go to "big" school eventually. He wanted to walk to school with his bigger siblings alone and was angry with me for going with them on that first day. When the children got home that afternoon, Louistjie's brother Marius, told me that our young man ended up in the headmaster's office for "committing a crime". I was totally surprised. When I asked what he did wrong, this was the story I was told: There is a thatched lapa on the terrain, of which the side of the roof is very low. Low enough for a little boy to touch it. As it goes with thatched roofs, little pieces of grass were sticking out. When Louis noticed this, he wanted to push them back in to make all the points even. Of course, he didn't succeeded. The piece of grass wouldn't go back in, so he decided to pull it out then. This of course, result in more pieces of grass coming out with the offending piece he tried to get out. Again, he tried to push them back, but we all know a man by the name of "Murphy", and the mischievous pieces of grass wouldn't go back in. This made the thatch look very untidy to him, and his next plan was to pull them out as well.....which resulted in more grass coming out. He was eventually discovered by one of the leaders and taken to the headmaster's office for this "serious" offence. Luckily our very anxious little boy was only told (very strictly) not to do such a thing again, and his siblings were called in to "save" him and keep an eye on him. This was (fortunately) not an indication of how his school life would proceed, and the rest of his school years went by without him getting into too much trouble again.
